Sports Medic Christmas List

I’ve been in the sporting event medical industry for over 3 years now. As the holidays approach, you might be wondering what to buy a sports medic in your life. Whether shopping for an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic, these gifts are sure to excite and be of great use. Here are some items that I’ve purchased and used that have become some of my all-time favorites. I’ve gone ahead and divided them into categories for your ease:

Bags & Kits:

Meret Omni Pro X: I’ve had this bag as my main large kit at events. It’s great for tournament weekends so that I don’t need to restock throughout a long shift. Additionally, It’s got great waterproofing and ruggedness ready for outdoor use.

Meret First In Pro X: Running the 2 bag setup has been a game changer. The first in bag allows me to keep the essentials on me so that the large bag can stay at our medic HQ onsite.

Deadbug DV2 Sling: Another favorite of mine has been the DV2. This is more of an athletic-trainer style bag with great organization and sling capabilities. Another great pick for a stand-alone, or dual-bag setup.

Firefly Hip Pouch: When working long tournament weekends, this is a go-to part of my medical kit. It allows me to keep the bare necessities on me and has designated pouches for penlights, pens, and shears in addition to interior compartments for tape or bleeding control.

Vertx Gamut Backpack: Although I don’t have it set up for a strictly-medical load out, this has been my EDC backpack for a number of years now. It also serves as a great personal bag at events I work, allowing me to pack food and other admin items. I feel the bag has a great mix of tactical and casual features.

Gadgets & Equipment:

Littmann Cardiology IV Stethoscope: After using other stethoscope brands for years, I finally bit the bullet and purchased these in 2024. Let me tell you, it is clear why the doctors and professionals in the medical field rely on Littmann. The sound quality and comfortability is unmatched by anything I’ve seen. I’m sold and I don’t think you could go wrong with any of their models.

Weltool Penlight: I was lucky enough to have this penlight recommended to me as I was starting out in the event medical field. It’s served me well to say the least. I rarely need to replace the batteries and it’s rugged enough to take just about anywhere. The only critique I have is the dream of it one day being rechargeable. Until then, I’m convinced it’s the best penlight on the market.

Olight Warrior 3S Flashlight: If the power goes out, or you’re trying to find the pair of trauma sheers you left on-scene, this flashlight can be a game-changer and a day-maker. Out of charge? Toss it on the magnetic wireless charger and it’ll be set for your next shift, not to mention it’s insane brightness and battery life overall.

Apparel:

First Tactical Job Shirt: This is a great heavy duty quarter zip for the EMS professional in your life. From working sporting event medical, to covering concerts, and rig work, this is a staple for cooler weather environments, especially in Minnesota. I’ve got mine embroidered and screen printed to wear on duty when providing sports EMS and it’s awesome for ice rinks with varying temperatures in addition to some outdoor events we work in the fall. Last but not least, this job shirt has all the tactical EMS features you might look for in a shirt, such as the pen slots, chest pocket, and radio loops.

5.11 EMS Pants: I have several pairs of these and they never seem to wear out or have any issues. Needless to say, I’ve been pleased and you can’t go wrong with any of 5.11’s EMS pant offerings. They have several fabric options and I purchase them all for use in the differing environments we come across.

Danner Lookout EMS Boots: I’ve used my fair share of EMS boots throughout the days. Although I don’t think I’ve found the perfect fit quite yet, these are almost there. I do prefer these over the 5.11 EMS boots I previously had. Each boot will last you about a year based off usage.
